BOSTON -- The promises to take attendees into the future of the field, with this year's theme of "Charting the Future of Endocrinology."

Kicking off here with Pre-Congress events on Wednesday, there will be a wide range of endocrine topics in store for the over 3,000 clinical endocrinologists expected to attend the AACE 27th Scientific and Clinical Congress.

Following the young investigator poster presentations on Thursday, the late-breaking poster sessions on Friday and Saturday are expected to garner quite a bit of attention, program committee chair , of Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, told 番茄社区app. Covering a wide-range of therapeutic areas, some late-breaking topics will include:

• Telecare glucose monitoring for pre-gestational diabetes
• Sotagliflozin treatment after insulin for type 1 diabetes
• 'Real-life' efficacy of the hybrid closed-loop MiniMed 670G system
• A selective cortisol modulator for hypercortisolism
• Racial differences in weight re-gain after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass
• Cardiac complications in pheochromocytoma patients

Certain top-scoring abstracts from the program were selected for oral presentations to be held Thursday and Friday. Some of the research covered in these session will cover the following topics:

• Predicting ipilimumab (Yervoy)-inducted hypophysitis
• Predictors of permanent hypoparathyroidism after total thyroidectomy
• Burosumab treatment for x-linked hypophosphatemia
• Cabozantinib for unresectable metastatic pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas
• Effect of dapagliflozin on plasma hepcidin concentrations

The scientific program will include interesting plenary sessions and lectures given by leading experts in the field. Co-chair of the abstracts committee for the annual meeting, , of Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia, told 番茄社区app that attendees can look forward to "wonderful" plenary sessions, including , of Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, as the opening plenary speaker. Kahn will discuss the gut microbiome, genetics, and their relationship to the development of metabolic syndrome on Thursday. Also, Andrew Stewart, MD, of Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, will speak on beta cell regeneration on Friday.

In-depth symposia, featuring 13 sessions on Friday, which will include talks for clinicians on "Cardiovascular Disease for the Endocrinologist" chaired by; "The Evolution of the Management of Intensive Diabetes Management" hosted by ; and "Obesity Treatment 2018: Behavioral and Nutrition Tools, Pharmacology, Endoscopic and Bariatric Procedures" led by .

Symposia will offer in-depth session geared towards endocrine physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and a new session this year for fellows-in-training and young physicians, called "The Basics to Survive Your Endocrine Career."

Friday's symposia -- "Nutrition 2018 – Is it All Apples and Oranges?" -- comes highly recommended by Lieb, with talks from experts including Frank Hu, MD, PhD, of Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in Boston. Hu's talk will address issues such as the "perfect" diet and whether plant based diets are "fads or fabulous."

"Meet-the-expert" sessions will be held on Thursday and Saturday, and will include the sessions "Strategies for Transgender Hormone Care: The Endocrinologist as Expert" and "Bone Turnover Markers: Emerging Tool in the Management of Postmenopausal Osteoporosis." These sessions will be topped off with "Meet-the-legend" sessions, featuring a trio of speakers from Boston: Michael Holick, MD, of Boston University, speaking on vitamin D; John Potts, MD, of Massachusetts General Hospital, weighing in on hyperparathyroidism; and Gordon Williams, MD, of Brigham and Women's Hospital, discussing hyperaldosteronism.
