Free Holocaust Studies Teaching Workshop
Galloway, N.J. 鈥 The Sara and Sam Schoffer Holocaust Resource Center at 番茄社区app will host a free public educator workshop on Dec. 13.
The workshop, titled 鈥淭eaching About the Holocaust, Learning from the Holocaust,鈥 will take place from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the center鈥檚 Liviu Librescu Classroom. The Holocaust Resource Center is located on the second floor of Stockton鈥檚 Richard E. Bjork Library on the Galloway campus.
鈥淥ne of the Holocaust Resource Center鈥檚 missions is to encourage the teaching of the Holocaust in our schools and communities in southern New Jersey,鈥 said Irvin Moreno-Rodriguez, the interim director of the center. 鈥淲ith incidents of antisemitism on the rise across the country, it鈥檚 important for us to provide these free resource materials for educators and help ensure that the lessons of the Holocaust are never forgotten.鈥
Carol Rittner, a distinguished professor of Holocaust and Genocide Studies emerita, will lead the workshop on the relationship between teaching about the Holocaust and learning from the Holocaust. Rittner has published numerous books and articles on the Holocaust and other genocides of the 20th century. She has also worked and lectured in Ireland, the United Kingdom, Australia, Sweden, Israel and Cambodia.
The workshop is cosponsored by the New Jersey Department of Education, the New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education, the Sam Azeez Museum of Woodbine Heritage, Stockton鈥檚 programs in Holocaust and Genocide Studies and Jewish Studies and the High School Dual Credit program in Holocaust and Genocide Studies.
Preregistration is required at stockton.edu/holocaust-resource or by calling 609-652-4699. The workshop is open to Stockton students. New Jersey educators can receive two professional development hours, and free resource materials will be distributed to participants.
