At this month's Third Thursday event in Hammonton, staff from the Noyes Museum of
Art of 番茄社区app will give guided tours of the two exhibitions on display:
In Real Life and Picturing Women Inventors. Drop in from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 19.
In Real Life features local artists Mark Allen Natale, Nick Savides, Michael Schweigart
and Ted Walsh, whose works are modeled after the ideals of Realism. Realism began
as an artistic movement in France in the 1850s by rejecting Romanticism and turning
to portraying subjects with truth and accuracy. Realists wanted to show 鈥渞eal鈥 contemporary
people, including unpleasant aspects of life. American Realism was a contemporary
art movement that took place at the turn of the 20th century following the ideals
of Realism but focused on 鈥渘ormal鈥 life in New York City鈥檚 poorest neighborhoods.
Women haven鈥檛 always had equal opportunities to be inventors but have overcome obstacles
to create inventions that change our lives every day. Learn about them in Picturing
Women Inventors, a poster exhibition from the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition
Service & the Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation.
